But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. [bbe] Happy is the man who does not go in the company of sinners, or take his place in the way of evil-doers, or in the seat of those who do not give honour to the Lord. But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and whose mind is on his law day and night. He will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, which gives its fruit at the right time, whose leaves will ever be green; and he will do well in all his undertakings. The evil-doers are not so; but are like the dust from the grain, which the wind takes away. For this cause there will be no mercy for sinners when they are judged, and the evil-doers will have no place among the upright, Because the Lord sees the way of the upright, but the end of the sinner is destruction. 孩 童 的 動 作 ， 是 清 潔 ， 是 正 直 ， 都 顯 明 他 的 本 性 。 Even a child may be judged by his doings, if his work is free from sin and if it is right. 不 要 貪 睡 ， 免 致 貧 窮 。 眼 要 睜 開 ， 你 就 吃 飽 。 Do not be a lover of sleep, or you will become poor: keep your eyes open, and you will have bread enough. 買 物 的 說 ， 不 好 ， 不 好 。 及 至 買 去 ， 他 便 自 誇 。 A poor thing, a poor thing, says he who is giving money for goods: but when he has gone on his way, then he makes clear his pride in what he has got. 有 金 子 ， 和 許 多 珍 珠 。 （ 或 作 紅 寶 石 ） 惟 有 知 識 的 嘴 ， 乃 為 貴 重 的 珍 寶 。 There is gold and a store of corals: but the lips of knowledge are a jewel of great price. 以 虛 謊 而 得 的 食 物 ， 人 覺 甘 甜 。 但 後 來 他 的 口 ， 必 充 滿 塵 沙 。 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but after, his mouth will be full of sand. 計 謀 都 憑 籌 算 立 定 。 打 仗 要 憑 智 謀 。 Every purpose is put into effect by wise help: and by wise guiding make war. 往 來 傳 舌 的 ， 洩 漏 密 事 。 大 張 嘴 的 不 可 與 他 結 交 。 He who goes about talking of the business of others gives away secrets: so have nothing to do with him whose lips are open wide. 咒 罵 父 母 的 ， 他 的 燈 必 滅 ， 變 為 漆 黑 的 黑 暗 。 If anyone puts a curse on his father or his mother, his light will be put out in the blackest night. 起 初 速 得 的 產 業 ， 終 久 卻 不 為 福 。 [bbe] A heritage may be got quickly at first, but the end of it will not be a blessing. 你 不 要 說 ， 我 要 以 惡 報 惡 。 要 等 候 耶 和 華 ， 他 必 拯 救 你 。 Do not say, I will give punishment for evil: go on waiting for the Lord, and he will be your saviour. 兩 樣 的 法 碼 ， 為 耶 和 華 所 憎 惡 。 詭 詐 的 天 平 ， 也 為 不 善 。 Unequal weights are disgusting to the Lord, and false scales are not good. 人 冒 失 說 ， 這 是 聖 物 ， 許 願 之 後 才 查 問 ， 就 是 自 陷 網 羅 。 It is a danger to a man to say without thought, It is holy, and, after taking his oaths, to be questioning if it is necessary to keep them. 人 的 靈 是 耶 和 華 的 燈 ， 鑒 察 人 的 心 腹 。 The Lord keeps watch over the spirit of man, searching all the deepest parts of the body. 王 因 仁 慈 和 誠 實 ， 得 以 保 全 他 的 國 位 ， 也 因 仁 慈 立 穩 。 Mercy and good faith keep the king safe, and the seat of his power is based on upright acts. 強 壯 乃 少 年 人 的 榮 耀 。 白 發 為 老 年 人 的 尊 榮 。 The glory of young men is their strength, and the honour of old men is their grey hairs. 鞭 傷 除 淨 人 的 罪 惡 。 責 打 能 入 人 的 心 腹 。 By the wounds of the rod evil is taken away, and blows make clean the deepest parts of the body. 人 的 愚 昧 ， 傾 敗 他 的 道 。 他 的 心 也 抱 怨 耶 和 華 。 By his foolish behaviour a man's ways are turned upside down, and his heart is bitter against the Lord. 財 物 使 朋 友 增 多 。 但 窮 人 朋 友 遠 離 。 Wealth makes a great number of friends; but the poor man is parted from his friend. 好 施 散 的 ， 有 多 人 求 他 的 恩 情 。 愛 送 禮 的 ， 人 都 為 他 的 朋 友 。 Great numbers will make attempts to get the approval of a ruler: and every man is the special friend of him who has something to give. 得 著 智 慧 的 ， 愛 惜 生 命 ， 保 守 聰 明 的 ， 必 得 好 處 。 He who gets wisdom has love for his soul: he who keeps good sense will get what is truly good. 人 有 見 識 ， 就 不 輕 易 發 怒 。 寬 恕 人 的 過 失 ， 便 是 自 己 的 榮 耀 。 A man's good sense makes him slow to wrath, and the overlooking of wrongdoing is his glory. 懶 惰 使 人 沉 睡 。 懈 怠 的 人 ， 必 受 饑 餓 。 Hate of work sends deep sleep on a man: and he who has no industry will go without food. 謹 守 誡 命 的 ， 保 全 生 命 。 輕 忽 己 路 的 ， 必 致 死 亡 。 He who keeps the law keeps his soul; but death will be the fate of him who takes no note of the word. 憐 憫 貧 窮 的 ， 就 是 借 給 耶 和 華 。 他 的 善 行 ， 耶 和 華 必 償 還 。 He who has pity on the poor gives to the Lord, and the Lord will give him his reward. 暴 怒 的 人 ， 必 受 刑 罰 。 你 若 救 他 ， 必 須 再 救 。 A man of great wrath will have to take his punishment: for if you get him out of trouble you will have to do it again. 你 要 聽 勸 教 ， 受 訓 誨 ， 使 你 終 久 有 智 慧 。 Let your ear be open to suggestion and take teaching, so that at the end you may be wise. 人 心 多 有 計 謀 。 惟 有 耶 和 華 的 籌 算 ， 才 能 立 定 。 [bbe] A man's heart may be full of designs, but the purpose of the Lord is unchanging. 施 行 仁 慈 的 ， 令 人 愛 慕 。 窮 人 強 如 說 謊 言 的 。 The ornament of a man is his mercy, and a poor man is better than one who is false. 懶 惰 人 放 手 在 盤 子 裡 。 就 是 向 口 撤 回 ， 他 也 不 肯 。 hater of work puts his hand deep into the basin, and will not even take it to his mouth again. 鞭 打 褻 慢 人 ， 愚 蒙 人 必 長 見 識 。 責 備 明 哲 人 ， 他 就 明 白 知 識 。 When blows overtake the man of pride, the simple will get sense; say sharp words to the wise, and knowledge will be made clear to him. 虐 待 父 親 ， 攆 出 母 親 的 ， 是 貽 羞 致 辱 之 子 。 He who is violent to his father, driving away his mother, is a son causing shame and a bad name. 我 兒 ， 不 可 聽 了 教 訓 ， 而 又 偏 離 知 識 的 言 語 。 A son who no longer gives attention to teaching is turned away from the words of knowledge. 匪 徒 作 見 證 戲 笑 公 平 。 惡 人 的 口 吞 下 罪 孽 。 A good-for-nothing witness makes sport of the judge's decision: and the mouth of evil-doers sends out evil like a stream. 刑 罰 是 為 褻 慢 人 預 備 的 。 鞭 打 是 為 愚 昧 人 的 背 預 備 的 。 Rods are being made ready for the man of pride, and blows for the back of the foolish.
